Where:
The 25th Winter Universiade will take place in the city of Erzurum, Turkey.
When:
The 11-day multi winter sport event is scheduled to take place from January 27 – February 6, 2011. The official opening of the village will take place on January 22 and the official closing will be on February 8th (sports must depart the village by February 7th). Village dates to be confirmed at a later date.
What:
The Universiade is a multi-sport event that takes place every two years in various cities all over the world. It is one of the largest sporting events worldwide, second only in size to the Olympic games. The 25th Universiade in Erzurum will feature over 70 sporting events, encompassed in the following 11 sports:
Alpine Skiing, Biathlon, Ice Hockey, Curling, Cross Country Skiing, Ski Jumping, Nordic Combined, Short Track Speed Skating, Figure Skating, Snowboarding, and Freestyle Skiing.
Specific information regarding what events will be organized in each sport will be communicated separately to each National Sports Federation.
Who:
The Universiade is open to any competitor between the ages of 17 and 28 in the year of the Games, who are currently officially registered as proceeding towards a degree or diploma at the university or similar institute (e.g. college, CEGEP) or has graduated from a post secondary institution within the previous year of the event. The competitor must also be a national of the country they will represent. Funding:
This event is completely self-funded and the estimated costs for each team participant (i.e. athlete, coach, official) are approximately $3200 as follows:
*CIS participation fee: $565CAN for participants affiliated with a CIS institution
$665CAN for non-affiliated participants
* This includes fees for full Mission support, entry fees, FISU accreditation fee, and uniform
**Entry Fee: $35 USD per night of stay
** This includes all local ground transportation, meals and accommodations
Sport Fee: Any additional sport specific fees required
Airfare: $2200CAN (estimated)
Judge/Referee fees please see section “Judges and Referees” section for details

Judges and Referees:
Sport delegations competing in the following sports must participate in covering the cost of international judges or referees to attend the Universiade:
Ski Jumping, Nordic Combined, Ice Hockey, Short Track Speed Skating, and Figure Skating.
For Individual sports, the total amount of the Judges/Referees costs will be divided according to the number of participants and all countries participating in the sport will pay on ratio to the number of their participants.
For team sports, the total amount of the Judges/Referees costs will be divided between the participating teams.
The organizing committee will announce the exact sum owed by each nation per sport three months before the beginning of the Universiade.
Deadlines:
May 2010: Intent to Participate (CIS will complete)
June 2010: CIS will circulate memorandum of understanding (MOU) between CIS and NSFs
July 27, 2010: General Entry (CIS will complete)
August 1, 2010: Signed MOU
August 27, 2010: Team Sport Deposit – Hockey, Curling
October 1, 2010: Team Staff Quota Policies
October 10, 2010: Quantitative Entry Information due to CIS
(due to the OC by October 27, 2010)
December 10, 2010:Nominative and all Individual Entry Forms (due to the OC by December 27)
Delegation Travel plan (due to the OC by December 27)
All fees must be paid
The Organizing Committee has not distributed individual entry forms. A Head of Delegations Site Visit is taking place in September 2010 at which time additional information will be obtained and distributed to the sports.
Transportation:
Flight may be booked individually, or through the CIS travel agent. We will discuss the possibilities with each sport.
Team Uniform:
The CIS is constantly working on upgrading the clothing package through sponsorships, and at this time will provide the following for each team member. Quantities are still being determined.
Ski jacket
Ski pants
Sweater
Hat
Gloves
Backpack
All competition wear will be the responsibility of each sport.
Additional Information:
Team staff quotas have been based upon the 2007 and 2009 Winter Universiades, and will be discussed and confirmed with each sport in early October 2010 following the Pre-Games site visit in September 2010. We will also confirm at that time when the individual sport technical regulations will be distributed.
